TSV Joins the Big Triple Crown Party

With one of the biggest weeks in American Cycling in progress at this time, TSV is once again part of the Commerce Bank Triple Crown of Cycling. Although we will not be fielding an Elite Women's Team for the first time in over 10 years, Tri-State Velo will be hosting the CSC Manayunk Hill Climb on Friday, June 8th and the Lincoln Mercury Time Trial on Saturday, June 9th.

These two events will showcase some of the finest Amatuer Bicycle Racers in the region. They also allow first-time racers to experience competition without the angst of entering a mass start event. In short, time trials are good for all, competitors and spectators alike.

CSC, which is sponsoring the Hill Climb, is bringing out two of their cycling team's young pro riders (Martin Pedersen and Matthew Goss) to set the time up the famous Manayunk Wall. Martin won the Tour of Britian last year and should kick it up that hill. Matthew, their newest Australian, is young but tough (it seems they like to travel in pairs). They will both be available before and after the race for autographs, etc.

The Lincoln Mercury Time Trial on Saturday will start and finish on Eakins Oval. Over 250 riders have pre-registered to go against the clock on this beautiful, fast course up and back on the West River Drive. The time trial also is the 2007 PA Junior Time Trial Championship, so you will see some of the finest, young riders in the state--if not the country.

Both events are also qualifiers for the 2007 PCT Junior Grand Prix.

Join the Triple Crown Cycling Party!
Finally, this Friday, June 8th, 2007, Bicycle Therapy will be hosting their annual Triple Crown Cycling Party from 7pm - 9pm at their South Street Philadelphia location.

  • This year's party will feature: SRAM representatives (meet Ed) demonstrating their newest innovations and products.
  • Hutchinson Tire's Adam Micklin - the North American sales and marketing manager will be demonstrating their new tubeless road tire.
  • Shimano's R300 - an exciting new elite road shoe with a custom moldable upper.
  • Q&A and autographs from many participating professional cyclists.
  • Free SWAG and plenty of food and beverages will be available for everyone!
  • Thanks to this year's sponsors... SRAM, Hutchinson, Orbea, Team Tri-State Velo, and Victory Brewing.

After all of these amazing events between Friday and Sunday, don't forget to attend the Commerce Bank Reading Classic, the second round of this year's Triple Crown of Cycling, which takes place this Thursday. On Sunday, June 10th, of course, there is the Philadelphia International and Liberty Classic. And even though we won't be seeing the famous red, white and green of TSV going by in the peloton, you can feel satisfied because some of our alumni will be an integral part of the races.

Former TSV junior standout and Victory Brewing Pro rider Lauren Franges will be riding with her Team Lipton teammates as well as former TSV Junior World Track Sprint Champion, Sarah Uhl, who rode for Team Saturn and is now with Cheerwine. Both will set there sight on a podium finish in this year's Pro Women's Liberty Classic. Give a special wave to former Victory Brewing Team Director, Mike Tamayo, who will be in the team car as assistant Dir. Sports for Health Net presented by Maxxis in the Pro Men's Philadelphia International.

Having the day off for the first time in a long, long time, I plan to be out there with my friends and teammates cheering them on because this is what we do and why we do it...enjoy.

Ron Ruggiero, President TSV
