Rain, rain, go away
Saturday was wet, and then wet and cold. Not what you want for your first race of the season! Inspite of the nasty conditions, we had a great field. I think 28 women were pre-registered. Things got fast from the start -- probably just to get some warmth back into the limbs. Verducci launched some attacks and finally got 2 girls away with another girl after a crash involving our teammate Michelle Suplick. Fortunately Michelle was OK but some of us got behind the crash. I was in front of the crash but missed the break. I tried to chase but no one was willing to get organized, so it came down to a field sprint for 4th. Sprinting isn't really my thing and I ended up 9th. As soon as the race ended I realized how cold I was and couldn't stop shaking for atleast 30 minutes. I sat in my car with the heat blasting wondering how I was gonna drive home. Finally it subsided, but the damage was done. I started feeling ill that afternoon. I forced myself to eat and went to bed early hoping I'd feel better in the morning.
Tryin to hold it down - literally
Sunday was a beautiful day but I wasn't feeling any better. After numerous trips to the bathroom and forcing myself to eat again, I lined up hoping just to keep down what I'd managed to eat. Lemon Hill is a tough .8 mile course with little recovery. Verducci got a girl in the break with 2 others. I bridged up to them and was about to latch on as they approached the hill to the start/finish. There was a pretty good headwind on the hill and I couldn't hang on. I spent a couple laps in no man's land and was reabsorbed by the field. Again it came down to a sprint for 4th. This time I did one place better and came out 8th, which put me 7th overall in the omnium. And no, I didn't puke :-)

BTW -- Congratulations to Annie Malouin who took 1st overall in the cat 4 competition!
