Steve and Maria's Family Grows by ONE!

Four of us met early at Falls Bridge yesterday to avoid the hassles of getting around the Philadelphia Distance Run. Annie, Andrea, Steve and me took off on a nice ride to Collegeville. It must be squirrel season because along the way, we (or I) kept having some close encounters with them. There were other such critters as a possum (dead), skunk (dead) and probably something else I can't remember.

Near the halfway point on the ride, as we approached Stump Road, another critter jumped out of a field. This one was not a squirrel nor any of the above mentioned, but a tiny kittie. She sprung from the field all wet probably from the dew and began meowing at us. We came to a stop and kittie ran up to me and let me pet her. Sooo cute! Fortunately, we had a veterinarian on the ride (Annie), who immediately picked up the kittie, identified the sex (female), checked for fleas (none), mites (none) and her overall well-being (good). Annie exclaims, "Maria, here's your kittie! She's a very healthy kittie." She was too cute to abandon and we were concerned about the cars on the road. How to get her home? I happened to be wearing 2 jerseys, so off came the inner one, Annie stuffed the kittie in a pocket and balled her up in a bundle.

We started the trek home with her stuffed under my jersey...and meowing all the way. We had to stop a few times to secure the bundle and Annie picked up on carrying duties...all the way to Manayunk. We stopped for coffee at La Colombe, which gave us a chance to feed her a little saucer of diluted half and half with a sprinkle of sugar. She loved it. Back into the bundle, under my jersey and home into a comfy little shoebox. More pictures to come. : ) Steve and Maria Proud owners of a cute kittie soon to be named.
